Reports to: Assistant Director

Review Period: 90 days

Starting Pay: $25.50/hour

Job Description:

The Alburgh Family Clubhouse is seeking a passionate, dedicated Preschool Teacher to lead our Vermont Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for 3- and 4-year-old children. This role is ideal for both early-career licensed educators and experienced teachers seeking a more balanced, relationship-centered approach to teaching.

As the lead teacher in a play-based classroom, you will design and implement a high-quality early learning experience that supports children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development. You will foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom while building strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead all aspects of classroom instruction, including curriculum planning, implementation, and classroom management in alignment with Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS) and state licensing regulations 

  • Work closely with a strong, collaborative assistant teacher to build relationships with and among children 

  • Create a warm, responsive, and engaging learning environment that supports each child’s development 

  • Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities that promote curiosity, creativity, and active learning 

  • Observe, assess, and document children’s progress using tools such as ASQ and Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG) 

  • Maintain consistent, positive communication with families through daily updates, conferences, and developmental reports 

  • Collaborate with colleagues to support classroom operations and meet the individual needs of all children 

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment in accordance with health and safety regulations 

  • Model and support positive behavior, social-emotional growth, and self-help skills 

  • Supervise children at all times, including during indoor and outdoor activities, meals, and rest periods 

  • Identify and respond to health, safety, or developmental concerns, and communicate appropriately with leadership 

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least twenty (20) years of age

AND HAVE:

  • Current Vermont Agency of Education teaching license with endorsement in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education, or Elementary Education, or eligibility for an emergency license by the required start date

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young children in a group setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG) or similar assessment tools 

  • Familiarity with Vermont STARS, CLASS, NAEYC accreditation, or other early childhood quality frameworks 

  • Training or coursework in trauma-informed practices, social-emotional development, or related fields 

  • Experience or training in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices
