Job Description:
The Alburgh Family Clubhouse is seeking a passionate and dependable Kitchen Manager to oversee our CACFP-approved childcare kitchen. The Kitchen Manager is responsible for menu planning, nutrition compliance, food ordering, inventory management, safe food storage, and meal preparation. This position works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and does not have primary responsibility for supervising a classroom of children.
The Alburgh Family Clubhouse serves breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day to all children in attendance during mealtimes.
Schedule:
30 hours per week
Responsibilities include:

Build positive, respectful relationships with children while supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Collaborate with classroom staff to support the needs of children and the overall program.

Plan and prepare monthly rotating menus that are nutritious, diverse, and CACFP compliant.

Evaluate the nutritional content of meals, including calories, fat, sodium, and other required nutrients, to ensure compliance with federal and state childcare nutrition standards.

Prepare and serve meals according to established schedules.

Deliver meals to classrooms and assist with meal clean-up as needed.

Properly store food before and after meal service following food safety guidelines.

Wash, sanitize, and sterilize dishes, cookware, utensils, and food preparation surfaces daily.

Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, ovens, sinks, and countertops, in accordance with health regulations.

Sweep and mop kitchen floors, remove trash, and maintain an organized and sanitary kitchen environment.

Ensure children with food allergies or dietary restrictions receive appropriate meals and beverages while following strict allergen control procedures.

Monitor food inventory and place orders with approved vendors as needed.

Ensure all food storage, handling, preparation, and cooking practices comply with CACFP requirements, FDA Food Code recommendations, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Maintain accurate records related to menu planning, food production, inventory, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.

Conduct routine inspections of the kitchen and equipment, addressing safety concerns or notifying the Executive or Assistant Director when corrective action is needed.

Remain attentive to the health and safety needs of children and report concerns to the Executive or Assistant Director.

Maintain open and professional communication with coworkers and administration.

Follow all center policies, procedures, and Vermont childcare licensing regulations.

Participate in ongoing professional development to support continuous learning and high-quality program standards.
Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

High school diploma or GED required.

Obtain Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification within 30 days of employment.

Previous experience working in a commercial, institutional, or childcare kitchen preferred.

Ability to read, write, maintain records, and follow written procedures.

Ability to work effectively with children, families, staff, and volunteers.

Must be in good health and physically able to meet the demands of a childcare kitchen environment.

Must successfully pass a Vermont Child Care Background Check.
